73rd Graduation Ceremony – CoNAS Presents 275 students
A total of 13,209 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas of Makerere University during the 73rd graduation ceremony that ends on Friday, 17th February 2023. Of these, 6803 (52%) are female and 6406 (48%) male. Click here for more details

The College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS) presented its graduands today which is day one of the 71st Graduation of Makerere University. The graduation week that started today (17th May 2021) is running till Friday 21st May, 2021.

Dr. Michael Owor was nominated by the Vice Chancellor as a Member of the Oil and Gas Sector Skills Council of the Ministry of Education and Sports to represent Makerere University from 6 September 2019 for 3 years. Dr. Owor is the Chair of the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies at CoNAS.

Professor Theophilus Davies from the University of Nigeria at Nsukka was hosted by the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies from the 26th August to 2nd September 2018; he conducted a series of lectures on Medical Geology (MG) in preparation for the establishment of a UNESCO Chair of Medical Geology in Africa. The visit was sponsored by African Network of Earth Sciences (ANESI) and UNESCO.

Geology is the study of the origin, evolution, composition and structure of the earth. It draws upon all basic sciences. This subject was first taught at Makerere in the Faculty of Science in 1968. It was a component in the Department of Geography but later became a fully-fledged Department in 1969. In 2010, the Makerere University Council renamed the Department of Geology as the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies.
